Dakota Weidman hunting Ketchums Joker, owned by Ketchum's Kennel won the 2014 PKC New York State Youth Championship Saturday night in Branchport, New York.

From New York State President Dave Nicholas, It’s Saturday Night at the NY State Youth Hunt in Branchport, NY.  This was a tough night for parents and youth to come out on the eve before the great HOLIDAY of Easter.   However there were 13 Youth that filled 4 casts that were after the elusive title “New York State YOUTH Champion”, and the $500 added purse may have a bit to do with a good turnout considering the odds with the holiday conflict.  We had one full cast of 4 that were 12 yrs and under, and the balance of over 12yrs being 12 dogs for 3 three dog casts.  Then all cast winners competed for the title.The Open Event took an interesting turn as the handlers were considering splitting and then some hard core handlers stepped up to take the risk of just taking home $50 for a 3rd or 4th possible placement vs maybe taking home approx. $1,358 with everything included for a rewarding final ROUND.  The hunt took a number of interesting turns as who was looking to be an obvious cast winner was bumped out and a known Champion of winning hunts slipped in and took away the 1st place spot.  Hunt Over and what a night!”
