Super Stakes Ch - Thursday Report
PKC Super Stakes Championship Report #1The 2001 edition of the grandest pup derby in the wide world of coon hunting, the PKC Super Stakes Championship jumped started the Ten Days of Aurora with 270 pups hunting on opening night.
Autumn has arrived in western Kentucky and the oaks and hickories, along with a myriad of hardwoods of every size and description are nearing peak color along the shores of the great Kentucky Lake. A more beautiful setting for a coon hunt of the magnitude of the PKC World Hunt and Super Stakes Championships scheduled through October 27th in the resort town of Aurora, would be hard to imagine. Warm sunny days and crisp, dark nights just perfect for coon hunting not only provided a “just right” setting for opening night but are also forecasted for the remainder of the week as well.
The “early” born pups, meaning they were born between November 1st and April 30th are hunting this fall in two divisions; one-year olds and two-year olds called the Junior and Senior divisions respectively. The opening night saw 110 Juniors and 160 Seniors making the deadline for entry conformation. The pups hunted out of the Kentucky towns of Elkton, Paducah, Smithland, and Clinton in addition to the home base of Aurora. Casts were also sent to Camden, Tennessee.
In order to advance to the semifinals on Sunday night, pups must put two cast wins back to back on one of three nights, Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. Here are the pups that successfully completed their mission on opening night.

The crowds at Aurora are typically large with a special spirit of patriotism pervading the Tennis Center on opening night. With gas prices reaching a yearly low and Americans anxious to prove that the resent events are going to affect the way they live and enjoy all the benefits of the Land of the Free, we expect the ten night attendance total to set an all time record. And so, it’s time to load the pickup and head on down to Aurora if you haven’t already decided to do so.
PKC – We’re having a great time in Aurora and it’s definitely where you need to be!
