Super Stakes CH - Saturday Report
PKC Super Stakes Championship Report #3This report is being filed on Sunday, October 21st. It has been a great day here in Aurora and exciting in many ways. The weather has been Autumn-perfect. Sunday is a kick back kind of day. We opened with a church service at the Tennis Center, followed by a terrific buffet lunch at the KenLake Hotel. A short drive from the park took us to the Land Between the Lakes to view the elk and buffalo herds there. The magnificent animals provided tremendous photo opportunities as they browsed peacefully in lush meadows bordering hardwood forests adorned in brilliant Autumn foliage. I found when I closed my eyes and opened them to view a bull elk or shaggy-humped bison, I could have easily imagined myself to be in Wyoming. It was simply a drop dead gorgeous day in western Kentucky.
As the evening shadows lengthened, successful handlers and their hounds filed into the Tennis Center to draw their casts and pose with their hounds for the semifinal photo session. Hounds who had won two casts on one the three qualifying nights comprised the semifinal casts in the one and two-year old divisions.

The early round Sunday night consisted of eight casts in each of the age divisions with the cast winners coming back to hunt late in four, two-dog casts. As this report is being filed, the late round casts are in the woods. The cast winners of each of these casts will comprise the final four hounds in each age category that will hunt in the finals on Monday night. We will report the successful late round winners as soon as they are available.
Monday night will also kick off the PKC World Hunt. We expect an entry in excess of 400 hounds on the opening night.
A bit of excitement ensued as the early round semifinal casts were returning to the fairgrounds on Sunday night. A power transformer shorted out, leaving the Tennis Center in the dark. Of course all of those in attendance had lights and so the indoor Tennis Center resembled a gigantic coon hunt as casts where called, panels assembled and hunters rehashed the events of the early rounds with their hunting lights on. Working in the darkness was a natural for the throngs of nocturnal hunters but did delay the issuance of checks to the winners due to the inability to utilize the PKC computers.
Watch PROHOUND Online for the Final Four of each division to be posted soon.
