History made at Labor Day show

Labor Day Classic Bench Show

North Vernon, IL - The PKC/Purina National Bench Show Tour is on the r ecord books with the final installment having played here on Friday. One of the winners may have set a record for earnings at a bench show. Natalie Drake of Herman, NE had a big day winning a total of $789.00 for the day. Drake captured the several of the Best of Show titles in route to the earnings record.

Dewayne Brough of Oak Harbor, OH, Jim Wilkinson of Louisville, KY, and Jim Simpson of Shelbyville, IN served as judges. Tom Lipe of Murphysboro, IL was Ring Steward.

Beautiful weather set the stage for the show and the hounds, in the cool breezes that accompanied blue skies, showed to their best ability. History was made in the Champions show as three Treeing Walker males came to a dead heat, each scoring 27 points. The judges were asked to wipe their memories clean and take a second look. The three males were PKC World Show Champion River Pine Flying Hawk, Oklahoma PS Windchester, and Hank’s Honest Abe. Abe emerged the victor, tallying the most points in the secret balloting system.
