Louisville, MS – PKC Executive Vice President Roger Carnegie reports that the “heat was on” at the Louisvi lle Coliseum last night as 182 big dogs and pups opened the annual PKC Winter Classic here. Last year hunters shivered in the cold expanses of the coliseum as the facility staff observed a 40 degree limit before the building's heating system could be utilized. A meeting between Carnegie and the mayor concerning this year’s event had things toasty warm for the hunters as they came in from the woods last night.

The hunt took place under clear skies with lows around 50 degrees. Scores were what we like to see as evidence of good, solid performances from the hounds and handlers. The Open Event final four ranged from 350 at the low end to a high score of 450. The Pup Derby scores were comparable at 425 for the high and 325 on the bubble.

The Talkum Warrior Coon Hunter’s Association of Starkville, MS serves as host for the Winter Classic with much appreciated assistance from the clubs at Philadelphia, Maben, and Columbus in Mississippi, and from the club at Aliceville, Alabama. The event featured $500 in added money for both the Open Event and the Pup Derby. The Friday and Saturday night hunts will feature $1,500 in added for the Open Events and $500 on the Pup Derbies.
