Easy fix...everybody strikes in for 50...descending tree from 125..75..50..25 with time limits. They can run all over the woods barking all nite and it doesn't matter.

That would penalize the honest strike dogs and lead to silent track dogs. Don't throw the Baby out with the bath water.

I can see where this is going.Man needs a first strike.Dog A strikes for 100 under the min.Dog B strikes after the min. Then he has dog A minus to win. This is going to be a bad deal. Are you going to scratch silent mouth track hounds.

How do you truly know a dog is an honest strike dog? Just because one barks at 500 yards doesn’t mean he is any more honest than one barking at 5.

Some haven’t never seen a cold nose hound.I hunted with one in the dead summer. He struck under our feet and run like he was tied to the coon.He trees three singles and we never got a bark on his tracks. He struck under the min.And run for 20 min or longer and had the coons.I guess he would have got minuses under the babbling rule.

You should be hunting him in the hunts. That sounds exactly like how the money winners win. Leaves barking and trees coon. Unbeatable. Sounds like he even had you fooled.

Richard C Lambert wrote:Why doesn't PKC post a list of "Dogs minused for babbling more than 2 times"? Then everyone would know who the babbling dogs were. That would put a stop to the problem. (If there is a problem) It seems to me that this would be an easy fix. If you had a babbler, then everyone would know and you would have to stop them or get minused every time you hunted them. It worked with mean dogs. :p
Great Idea!

Do you all not understand the dog that trees the most coons wins? I’ve not won a whole lot but what I have won I won because my dog treed more coons than the others THAT NIGHT and I done most of it with 25-100!! The key to this game is speed and accuracy fellors.

Re: - 11.A. Babbling Dogs And Strike Points (Rule Update) -
People saying these babblers are stealing points? Gaining undeserved points? Not every dog in a cast is a babbler but I can feel pretty confident that almost everyone that has ever hunted has pitched their dog or struck or treed the wrong dog. Did they own up to it or let it slide and just call it "handling"? So before so many want to jump on the band wagon to enforce or change certain rules, let's enforce the ones we have in place and go by the blue book in all categories not just what's convenient for our personal style of dog.

Re: - 11.A. Babbling Dogs And Strike Points (Rule Update) -
Dogs leave babbling. 4 dog cast and 3 of them shut up after 30 seconds or so. 4th dog continues to babble but handler doesn't strike it within two minutes. Two minutes is up and handler strikes babbling dog. It is obvious that the dog hasn't shut up from the turn loose. No change in voice or tone to indicate that he/she may have legitimately struck a track. You minus the dog. A dog must be struck on or before the third bark. Dog hasn't shut up...how many time do we minus and restrike a dog before it obviously is interfering with the cast???
I have seen these dogs here in thin coon run for an hour before really getting struck and you know they did because you can hear the difference. In this hours time one or two dogs have been struck treed and scored in a different direction. This babbling is a problem and a headache to score.

Re: - 11.A. Babbling Dogs And Strike Points (Rule Update) -
Once the minute expires, the judge should ask for a call after the dog's third bark. If handler does not strike dog, judge should follow procedure in #11.B.
7.A. One (1) Minute Rule - Each time dog(s) is turned loose, the handler has a one (1) minute grace period in which their dog does not have to be called. After the one (1) minute period, the dog should be called struck on or before the third bark.
11.B. Failure To Call Dog - When judge has determined that a dog has opened three (3) times after the first minute without being struck, he/she will ask for a call. If the handler fails to call the dog struck on the next bark, judge will award the next available strike points and minus them. If the dog continues to open he must be struck after the next three (3) barks or the same process will be repeated.

Prepare yourself and your hound. Hunt the dog, read the Blue Book, and your Good Book!

Re: - 11.A. Babbling Dogs And Strike Points (Rule Update) -
I was on a cast the other night and my dog struck in at 55 seconds. I struck her in because she don' t babble. She was at 235 yards on my Garmin. The judge asked me to tell him when I heard her again. 1.5 minutes after I struck her she opened again at 400 yards. In the mean time he had struck his dog in. Then proceeded to minus my dog for babbling. Said she has to carry track out. What does that even mean. Is the dog required to bark more if you strike in under the minute. He struck his dog at 1 minute 10 seconds, but he gets 6 minutes to bark. This rule is very subjective and is probably misused more than any other rule. PKC needs to clarify what moving track out of area means.
