The 2014 PKC Senior Dog Showdown Is Upon Us

The sixty-four (64) member field for the 2014 PKC Seniors’ Showdown has been confirmed. The event is scheduled for January 31 & February 1, 2014 at the Isle of Capri Casino in Lula, Mississippi. Co-sponsored by PKC, Purina, SportDog, and the Isle of Capri Casino, the winner drives home in a brand new pickup truck from Mitch Smith Chevrolet of Cullman, Alabama! The event is a single elimination event, conducted under Pro Rules with non-hunting judges, with early round cast winners advancing to the late round on Friday night. The four late round cast winners from Friday compete on Saturday night for the keys to the brand spanking new pickup truck! In addition to the pickup truck, cash prizes will be awarded to the remaining final three placements; $2,000 to the runner-up, $1,000 to third place, and $500 to fourth place.
Our field this year consists of thirty-nine (39) males and twenty-five (25) females. Those sixty-four (64) dogs represent five (5) Black & Tan males; one (1) Bluetick male; three (3) English males and one (1) female; and thirty (30) Walker males and twenty-four (24) females.
Georgia and Tennessee lead the field with eight (8) qualifiers each, followed by South Carolina with six (6) qualifiers. Kentucky has five (5) qualifiers; Alabama, Mississippi, Ohio, and Oklahoma have four (4) qualifiers each; West Virginia has three (3) qualifiers; Arkansas, Illinois, Louisiana, North Carolina, and Texas qualified two (2) each; Canada, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Missouri, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia complete the field with one (1) qualifier each.
Hat Creeks Stylish Bang, a Walker Male with a birth date of 06/10/2003, owned by Wesley Hamby of Wallhalla, South Carolina, is the oldest of the qualifiers at the tender age of ten years and 7 months old, followed by No Show Ruby, owned by Reed Or Blackwood of Adair, Oklahoma with a birth date of 05/21/2004. Our youngest qualifiers are Stylish Phlirt, owned by Rodney Finger of Houston, Texas, with a birth date of 07/02/2009, and Hardwood Rachel, owned by Brad Quate of Muncie, Indiana with a birth date of 06/28/2009; four days older than Stylish Phlirt. Rounding out the field are an additional ten (10) 2009 models; twenty-four (24) 2008 models; seventeen (17) 2007 models; five (5) 2006 models; three (3) 2005 models, and one (1) more 2004 model.

ALL COMPETITORS, GUESTS, SUPPORT PERSONNEL, AND PKC STAFF MEMBERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO PARK IN THE DESIGNATED PARKING AREAS. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, ARE ANY VEHICLES TO BE PARKED AT THE MAIN ENTRANCE TO THE CASINO FOR ANY PERIOD OF TIME; NO EXCEPTIONS! THE ISLE OF CAPRI CASINO STAFF HAS MADE THIS A MANDATORY REQUIREMENT, AND WE WILL BE REQUIRED TO ABIDE BY THEIR POLICY!
All qualifiers will receive a cap and jacket commemorating their qualification for the event, compliments of Purina, SportDog, and PKC, and are asked to please wear the jacket for picture taking!
Drawing for first round casts, and pictures of all qualifiers will be taken between 2:00 PM and 3:30 PM at a site designated by the casino, and all participants are being asked to please be on time. Please be on time or early for picture taking. Any qualifier not on site between 2:00 PM and 3:30 PM on Friday, January 31st will be omitted from the 2014 Senior Showdown coverage in PROHOUND.
Beginning at 4:30 PM, all participants and their guests will be treated to a light luncheon consisting of various finger foods, compliments of the Isle of Capri Casino. Announcements and calling of casts will immediately follow, and we hope to provide all interested parties the complete matchups soon after the casts are headed to the woods!
Each member of the final cast will be interviewed on Saturday afternoon by Amy Thomas for articles to be published in PROHOUND. Each late round cast winner on Friday night will be assigned an interview time for Saturday afternoon after returning to the casino from late round casts.
