Aurora, KY - It's official. Fall has arrived in west Kentucky and no other sign is more obvious than that of the caravans of pickups with dog boxes rolling into the resort town of Aurora on the western shore of Kentucky Lake. They're here for the ten-day PKC coon hunting spectacular we call the PKC World Hunt and it looks like it's going to be a big'un.

One of the things that make this hunt so attactive to so many hunters from across the nation who make the drive, and quite frankly wouldn't be found anywhere else at this time of year, is the fantastic Aurora area and all it has to offer.

Typical of much of the lodging in and around the area is the cabin I'll call home for the better part of the next two weeks. Situated on the shore of Kentucky Lake and surrounded by hardwood ridges it offers a commodity that is so rare in these frantic times, peace and quiet! From this rustic and especially secluded location, I'll be reporting some of the color attached to the Super Stakes and World Championships over the next few days.

One of the things I noticed this morning as I awoke to the first rays of sun peeking over the Land Between the Lakes is the abundant acorn crop this year. Coons lay on their winter fat principly by feeding heavy on acorns and the hounds that have the knack of locating a feeding coon in the oaks will have a good chance of winning here. The leaves are still plenty thick down here and so the moon, which will soon be full as the hunt progresses won't play as big a part in hunting conditions as it would if the leaves were off.

The hunt tonight is off and running with 233 pups hitting the timber. The casts were called and gone by 4:53 PM, just 23 minutes after the playing of the National Anthem to kick off the night's hunt.

We'll be back online with the cast winners as they come in tonight and hope to have special sections on the Super Stakes Championship and the World Hunt established on the Message Board where you will be able to follow the action on a daily basis.

If you have a few days to kill or can possibly get away, come on down to the Land Between the Lakes and join us. We'll try to get out and photograph the elk herd which is now up to 2000 animals statewise or maybe we'll roam where the buffalo call home. We'll definitely sit on the tailgate and shoot the breeze.
It's autumn in west Kentucky and the ten days of Aurora are off and running you need to be here if you possibly can.
