Sullivan, IN -

A Walker female from the kennel of Kevin Spinks in Columbia, Kentucky has won the 2 004 PKC Futurity Championshp and has done so impressively. Hunting in the three-dog cast against Leon Childers’ Shockin’ Ya’ll female and Chester Cooley’s Big Creek Sam male, the Kentucky bitch scored on three coon and amassed a total score of 550 points to seal the win. Childers is from Yellow Springs, Ohio while Cooley resides in Seymour, Indiana. Shock, as the Childers female is called, was handled by Billy Bell of Parsons, Tennessee.

The first place finish netted $11 thousand to Pepper, handled by Donnie Melson, also of Columbia, Kentucky and immediately propelled her to the coveted PKC Gold Champion degree, awarded when a dog reaches $10 thousand in PKC earnings. Sam finished second and took home $5 thousand, enough to earn the PKC Silver Champion degree. Sam’s final score was 325 plus. The third place finish paid $3,500 to Shockin’ Ya’ll and that, combined with lifetime earnings of $1,800 prior to the Futurity, makes her a PKC Silver Champion, a prestigious degree presented to dogs earning more than $4 thousand in PKC. The Shock pup struggled throughout the contest as she put 475 points on the card that had to be circled by judges Billy Vincent of Kentucky and Marcus Green of Alabama because the coon could not be seen.

Congratulations to Kevin Spinks and Donnie Melson on this impressive and well-deserved win. We look forward to seeing Precious Pepper, sired by Skuna River Bark and out of Mask’s Jill, in the winner’s circle at PKC events for many years to come.
