Effective immediately, Professional Kennel Club (PKC) can no longer accept new DNA profiles acquired through United Kennel Club (UKC). Likewise, UKC will be unable to honor any DNA profile acquired through PKC.
Recently, UKC has chosen to transfer their DNA business to another provider. The profiling procedure and reporting system used by this new lab is completely different than the procedure and reporting system used by PKC’s current DNA provider, GeneSeek.
The GeneSeek lab uses a “lettering system” to report DNA profile results, whereas UKC’s new provider uses a “numbering system”. These two DNA systems are not compatible, interchangeable or transferable.
Since the use of DNA profiling for use in canine parentage verification originated many years ago, United Kennel Club has always been very gracious in sharing DNA information with us. Just yesterday UKC advised us of this DNA Lab change, and has offered to work with us in any way possible regarding future DNA issues.
Professional Kennel Club will continue to accept DNA profiles completed for UKC through their previous lab.
