A hypothetical question
Let’s just say it’s the finals of a hunt. You have the non hunting judge, and 4 cast members and 3 panel members walking along. At a tree 1 handler who’s dog is treed here finds the coon. The judge is standing next to him and he sees it too, nobody else out here sees this coon…IF one of the handlers questions the “seeing of this coon” can the panel over turn this standing here In the woods or is it just up to the judge in this case? This is a hypothetical question it’s not like nothing like this could/would ever happen but if it did I’m curious of the proper procedure based on the rules.

Re: A hypothetical question
I actually ask PKC this same question a couple of months ago. With 3 thermals going and time running out on a tree at a 2500 entry hunt and only the judge and handler seeing the coon it was scored. I was told if the non hunting judge says he seen the coon nothing there to question so go figure lol.

Re: A hypothetical question
It is always a handlers right to question anything in a PKC hunt.
Prepare yourself and your hound. Hunt the dog, read the Blue Book, and your Good Book!

Re: A hypothetical question
It was questioned this weekend panel was in the woods never seen a coon still didn't over turn it. What does a man do? Something needs to be done about this before someone ends up hurt!

Re: A hypothetical question
Mr Jerry the only thing I can see too question is the integrity of the none hunting judge. Pkc needs to have a system where if a non hunting judge gets reported for scoring trees that other cast members or panels don't see in numerous hunts the man should not be allowed to judge period. I would also like to see pkc take into consideration this has happened with the same handler and judge numerous times. Just my opinion but it should not happen in any hunt but especially in the big entry hunts. Judges for the hunts should be honest and let the best dog win !

Gabe you are spot on ! it doesn't have to be some big 2500 pro hunt. Heck it happens just pleasure hunting!!! Some people have to realize that there can be a coon in a tree that thermals don't pick up (not very often but does happen). Pleasing the majority is going to be extremely difficult I just hope all Judges in the big money finals do a honest job and may the best dog that night win!! Some people wont agree with my opinion on this statement but I absolutely DO NOT believe anyone should handle a dog by themselves on a pro hunt no matter the entry fee. It just keeps anyone from "wondering" or accusing or spotting a coon with a thermal and moving the dog before the rest of the cast members arrive to score it. Yes I get it is hot some nights, that's an excuse I hear a lot is "its hot and I want to go handle my dog". The weather should be something (and other factors) a person should consider before they pay the entry fee. Everyone will make arguments on both sides of the fence. JMO

Re: A hypothetical question
The thermal picks up squirrels to but every man that was out there knows for a fact a coon was never seen by anyone.

Re: A hypothetical question
If this had happened once or even twice with the same judge and handler I don't think this would even being discussed but it has happened several times same judge and handler. They need a rule in place where if the judge is reported so many times he don't judge anymore period ! IF THE MILK IS SOUR YOU THROW IT OUT !!

Re: A hypothetical question
I honestly don’t think a non-hunting judge should be able to use a thermal. He should have to see the coon. But I’m old fashion. The thermal should be for the handler to use.
