The Little Black Creek Coon Hunters of Wiggins Mississippi would like to invite everyone to the 2024 Youth Fun Day and PKC Mississippi State Youth Championship to share in this special day and night with youngsters, families and friends. Good Lord willing this will be the 11th year for the Youth Fun Day and PKC Youth Hunts. Please mark your calendar for March 1st and 2nd to be in Wiggins, MS.

Friday night March 1st will bring a warm-up PKC $35 youth open event where entries close at 7 pm; all cast winners earn $100 and qualify for PKC Youth World Championship.

Saturday morning March 2nd at 9 am we will begin signing youngsters up for the Youth Fun Day activities of squalling contests, treeing contest, drag race and bench shows. Please remember all food and drinks ARE FREE throughout the event. Biscuits and sausage will be prepared for early Saturday morning arrivals; hot dogs, hamburgers, jambalaya, pastalaya, and a variety of sweets will be available for lunch and supper. No one has ever left Wiggins hungry or thirsty! Also remember Youngsters enter all day events with NO charge and NO previous earnings are required to enter any events in Wiggins. There will be much fun, excitement, bringing many awards, prizes, drawings and gifts presented throughout the event. A Purina dog food representative plans to be here providing dog food to youngsters and answering questions about nutrition for their hounds. Guest speakers will share God's greatest gift the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks officers plan to be here sharing information for hunting, fishing along with sharing firearms and water safety. A Coon Squallers contest will be held where all participants receive a new coon squaller. There will be three groups of competitors, ages 7- 12; ages 13 – 17; and the ever-popular kiddy squallers ages 6 and under. All kiddy squallers will receive medals and the winners of the older groups will receive gift certificates. Demonstration of proper coon squalling will be presented by seasoned coon hunters before events. We plan to have an outstanding bench show and our judges will also demonstrate to the youngsters how to set up and properly show their hounds before the show begins. We will have a kiddy group bench show for six-year-old and under youngsters. In our bench show the handler of the best male and handler of the best female of show will each receive a new beautiful folding bench, and much more. Our Treeing contest and Drag Race winners will each receive a new Kornerstone dog box.

The Mississippi State Youth Championship night hunt on March 2nd has a $35 entry fee with a 6 pm deadline. Every youngster that enters the hunt will be entered in a drawing for a Sika Deer hunt at 2 Brothers White Tail Farms in Loranger, Louisiana. The championship hunt will offer a teen group (ages 13 -17) and a pre-teen group (ages 7-12) that will be drawn separately as long as possible; but they will compete together in final cast to determine State Champion. All cast winners will earn $100 and qualification to the PKC Youth World Championship, a gift certificate and much more. Also, in the early round the high scoring pre-teen and the high scoring teen will each earn a beautiful Championship belt buckle. Each hunter that reaches the final four also earns a new Kornerstone dog box. The champion also earns an extra award of $250 with qualification to the PKC National Championship. Championship Belt Buckles will also be awarded the Champion and Reserve Champion. We truly appreciate and say Thank You to each person that will help us this year and those that have been a part in the many years gone by for providing for and promoting youngsters. We hope you will join us with youngsters, family and friends for fun and excitement in Wiggins March 1st and 2nd.

Below are some questions/answers that you might find helpful as you plan to join us for our Wiggins Fun Day and PKC Mississippi State Youth Championship.

Where is Wiggins Mississippi located? Highway 49 will take you straight to Wiggins. Wiggins is two hours south of Jackson Mississippi; one hour and twenty minutes west of Mobile Alabama; two hours and twenty minutes east of Baton Rouge Louisiana; and forty-five minutes north of the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Can youngsters from any state take part in all events at Wiggins youth fun day and PKC Mississippi Youth State Championship? Yes, youngsters from all states are welcome to take part in day and night events.

Are there any previous money earnings required for youngsters to compete in any event? NO, previous money earnings are NOT required.

Are there cabins or campgrounds available near Wiggins? Yes just to name a few, there are several options available: Paul B. Johnson State Park located just 22 miles north of Wiggins; Flint creek water park campgrounds in Wiggins; Perk Beach RV park just outside of Wiggins; and Red Creek Cabins just outside of Wiggins.

What is a kiddy group? The kiddy group is youngsters six years old and under that are showcased and given special attention and awards during a squalling contest and bench show just for them

Who is eligible to be part of the PKC youth night hunts? Full time students who are PKC members can hunt as Teen (Ages 13 -17) or Pre-Teen (ages 12 and under).

Are youth hunters in the Pre-Teen category (ages 12 and under) REQUIRED to have a parent or guardian accompany them when competing in PKC events? YES, all Pre-teen youths must be accompanied by parent or guardian with them on their cast.
Where can information about the PKC youth program be found? At prohound.com > Youth Program Details.

Can PKC membership and dog registration be done while in Wiggins? Yes both will be available.

Is there any advice for preparing youngsters to compete in youth competition events? A proven starting point is to carry your youngsters and their hound coon hunting. Teach and allow them the opportunity to learn how to identify the voice of their hound, to distinguish when their hound is working a track and when their hound has treed. Teach each youngster how to communicate with the judge of their cast, when they want to declare their hound struck and when they want to declare their hound treed. These learned skills will allow youngsters to be well on their way to enjoyment, fun, excitement, fellowship found in competition youth events. Also, while pleasure hunting with youngsters have someone take the role of judge, running times, scoring trees have everyone strike and tree their hound, all while using the rules, as if in a competition event. These mock casts have proven to be very helpful in preparing youngsters to become ready for youth competition casts. At each gathering or discussion please include how to compete with sportsmanship and respect for others wherever they go.

Can the Wiggins team use assistance spreading the word, sharing information about this event to youngsters, families and friends? Yes, please give the time and effort to help us share this event information to others in person, by phone, text, e- mail, social media, carrier pigeon or U.S. mail.

As always thank you.... Eddie Simmons

As this event is quickly approaching, I hope everyone is as excited as we are !!

Once again, thank you to everyone who helps with this event. Sponsors, friends, family, numerous people across the country come together to make this a success!

And remember we can never have too much help. If you can judge, guide, or volunteer to help in anyway contact Tyler!

Reminder , that this is just not a hunt. We are aware some kids may be to young and not quite ready for a nite hunt! But there are day events from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Even if you don’t have a dog , bring your kids out. We will find them a dog to use!

Now bare with us on this next part , it’s important , referring to the nite hunt
Parents are welcomed, loved, and recommended BUT THIS IS A “YOUTH” HUNT. Parents are more than welcome to assist in leading, and catching at tree. BUT leave the striking and treeing to the kids. Please no unsolicited advice to your kid or the judge. This is fun, this is a learning experience! After dogs are cut, remain a small distance behind cast. No bumping, sneezing, or coded ways to get your kids attention to make a call. Please leave it up to the kids. Let it be fun. Thank you.

Any questions, please call Mr Eddie.
