90 minutes cast

Postby Jeff Travis » Sun Feb 19, 2017 10:52 pm

I wasn't there but I've had a lot of calls not liking 90 minutes cast. Is this for the club for better spots or is it the staff wanting to go to bed early. Jmo it should be to the hunters what they hunt. We used to hunt longer in my younger days and now here we go shorting our hunting time.. Jmo

The only thing worse than 90 minute cast is one hour cast I despise both of them .Cutting hunting time from 2 hrs to 90 minutes does not accomplish nothing .I've heard every excuse in the world to cut hunt time an i don't believe anything other than lazy hunters .I guess I'm just a dinosaur.

It just aint the same i know some like it and some dont and i know for sure it benefits a partucular style of dog. We gotta do something about the leash lock rule if we gonna start shortening the hunt time.

Definitely 2 hrs! I'm with Jesse for sure we need to address the lead lock rule with shorter casts. I still say, what would it hurt to have a few different rules for 2 hr vs. 1 hr.
Almost all of us are used to different rules in different registries, y not lead lock in two hr and do away with it in 1 hr?

If you want 90 minute casts do it during the week instead of an hour. Weekend hunts and all of the bigger hunts should be 2 hours no question!

I didn't go this year, but I've attended the winter classic several times an they seem to have some of the bigger bottoms as anywhere I've been. Idk why it would change now.

2 HOURS is my vote an will always be my vote! I've been to every pro hunt this year an haven't had any problems hunting 2 hours!!

2 hour hunts all the way. 1 hour hunts are miserable, especially when you draw the dog that never stops barking from truck to tree.
Leash lock could at least be a handler's option. Either cut him, or walk him on the leash. The average dog is probably going to go straight to a treed dog. A handler with a young pup may not want to cut his dog. I don't go to many hunts, but those are my opinions.

I don't see a problem with 90 min cast if the club holding the event feels like this will fit there hunting areas better. I know in Alabama as well as many other states big hunting spots are becoming harder to find. It didn't seem to effect the scores of what it took to make the final 4 at the winter classic this year. Just my opinion

It look to me like there was about 4 cast each night with a good score, then the rest of the scores drop. 30 min can make a big difference in getting a good score when having to walk from dog to dog an being leash locked! Unless your hunting pack dogs on feeders I don't see getting many good scores.

I guess if some places want 90 min cast a man can choose to just not go! If wasn't a leash lock rule it would work better or if you was only needing a cast win. But trying to make a final 4 it most def hurts you if dogs get scattered.

Clubs should decide whether to have 90 minute hunts, or two hour hunts. If it hurts their numbers then that's their loss. It's quite - to get on here, and comment that their is "absolutely no need for clubs to do this" or "it's just lazy hunters." That's an insult to hard working clubs trying their best to put on all these hunts for you guys, and the same guys that just want to B about it. For those that put on these hunts, and KNOW that it's becoming a struggle to put guys in the woods due to the shrinking amount of hunting, 90 minute casts is just presenting ANOTHER OPTION to provide hunters with good hunts, and good guides. Nobody wanted all of these challenges, but a changing hunting environment, and increased human growth has forced these challenges on us. You folks have a chance to be a part of providing solutions to an ever increasing problem, or you can just get on here and run your mouth. A guy from California just bought 20 acres in the middle of a 2500 acre place I coonhunt, and he's calling game warden, sheriff, and raising hell if dogs get on him. Talk about a huge disruption for a cast! Too many of you have your heads in the sand, and don't realize that the hands of clubs are being forced to adjust. Be a part of the solution!

2 hours for me, except when I'm hunting a young dog, I like the 1 hr cast. I seek out shorter hunts when I'm not hunting a Coondog. I know in 2 hours those coondogs will usually show up. Those tree monsters come out in the summertime down here, and they are hard to beat when they are making 4 trees in an hour, and you have to find a coon in these big Oaks in the swamp. Watch the state standings, and you will see them start to shoot up the standing!
